New Project

Hey kids! I am working on an awesome project — dolls to represent figures from Inuit folklore! This guy will be The Troll with the Long Claws, a cannibal figure.

I'll have some more pix as he progresses...and my Patreon subscribers get step-out and video lessons as I'm working on him!

Another Great Play Day

Spent the weekend once again in San Diego, my home away from home. A fun dinner at La Jolla Public House Saturday nite with the Blue Blazers was followed Sunday by a play day at Sue Roos' studio.

Sue is a fabulous hostess, and there was dollmaking, sculpting, jewelry-making and a good time had by all. Beautiful weather and a great lunch off the barbecue topped it off!

In other news, I'm working away on classes and commissions, and we have a new kittykid! Brrt is a curious lil guy, that talks to himself as he explores, hence the name. His other name may be Goblin, cos he's sure gobblin' the kibble!

A newly-finished Wolfie

Pardon the photo quality — my studio is such a mess, I can't find my photo cube; guess I'd better get up there and get cleaning! TTFN

Cthulhu R’lyeh...Part Two

Well, I finally have one of my Elder Spawn in my Etsy shop, and working on more.

Pardon the paint on my hands, the pix were taken straight from the sculpting table!

There's a Jack on Etsy, too...

...and I'm working on a Wolfie for a commission!

If you're a Patron, I've just posted a quick step-out tutorial on sculpting Wolfie's face.

Where has the year gone? I need to finish my Jax so I can start on Christmas!! Anybody have any wishes for XMas oddfae? Maybe a Santa Wolfie...

Congratulations to Patrons DeEnna Lawson and Gail Garbe! They are my October winners for a small sculpt.

Interested in supporting me on Patreon? Click on over and read all about it...

In other news, I just got back from Chicago, where I taught a three-day class at the Windy City Doll Workshops. It rained the whole time I was there! Much appreciated by this Cali girl.

Stay tuned for this class, "Seasons of the Witch" to be online in the next few months...

Dragons' Eyes...

How would it feel to have a dragon watching over you?

This hand-sculpted polymer clay art piece will give you a little bit of that feeling — wear a bit of dragon magic!

Patr(e)on of the Arts

I have just launched my site on Patreon!

For those unfamiliar with Patreon, here's some info...

Artists are so lucky a place like Patreon exists — it's like a monthly Kickstarter to gain support for ideas and bring them to life. What's cool is anybunny can be a Patr(e)on... from $1 to $1000. I need some time and resources to get to some of the ideas that I've been mulling over for a couple of years, and to do the next book y'all are asking for. And maybe do an extra show or two — you Oddfans can help me do all that!

All reward levels will get news about my upcoming shows and events. Have a look at the Reward Tiers to see what kinda perks you'll get for your $$.

HUGE thanx to everyone who hops on board the Oddfae Wagon...it's gonna be Big Fun!!

Hey, It's Good...

...you know the rest.

Finally back at work after Comic Con and a lovely vacation in Arizona; just unpacking some unsold pieces to post on etsy, and going to try my hand on Shopify. Wish me luck!

Countdown to San Diego...

One week! Two seats left...

I'm furiously sculpting, and next week I'll be doing final prep for Comic Con, then ten days in my beloved San Diego for the 3F's — food, fun, and friends!

Here's a new Elder sculpt...

I'll have more tentacle-y goodness in my Etsy shop after Comic Con. Stay tuned!

Cthulhu R’lyeh...

These little guys aren't just dreams...they're nightmares! A new batch of critters for Comic Con — I'm calling 'em Elder Babies!

You can see in the background there's another one waiting in line...
I think he's gonna be blue with one big eye.

All because I broke a shell and didn't want to throw it away!

San Diego 2016

It's time for my annual pre-SDCC class in San Diego! We're going a little crazy this year — rather than everyone making the same doll. we'll all sculpt a face and build a cage doll to costume any way ya want!

What's a cage doll? You can read a brief history here... This guy is from my own doll collection.

I really want students to concentrate on letting your inner
coutourier out to play in this class, and also
change up the method of doll construction a bit...
the possibilities are endless! Hope to see you in San Diego in July!

Spinning My Wheels

Have you ever had a project with one bit left to do, but if you mess up that one bit, the whole thing is RUINED. Yah, me, too...

So, here's an old piece to hold you over 'til next time...

This is Hatch. I found him on the patio in the geraniums
one fine day when I was having Morning Tea.

See ya next week.

18 May 2016

Hatters Gonna Hat...

The Hatter is coming along slowly, and being difficult every step of the way...at least the hat was fun to make!

The understructure is made of cardstock and masking tape, and I'm sticking the fabric to it with matte medium — light but durable!

Hat of many colors

The Hatter and I are having differences over the color of his coat...there's so many to choose! I am confident we will reach an agreement for the pigmentation of his vestments, but we do both like the velvet fabric...

11 May 2016

More Cowbell!

Um, wait — more cottonballs! Yeah, more cottonballs...

I've not made a doll like this before, so it's slow going; wrap him, unwrap him, cut off some wire, wrap him, etc.

Anyways, more progress pix...

Now for costuming! That'll be REAL interesting...

See ya next week!

04 May 2016

...If Not for Deadlines...

...well, you know the rest.

It's time to work on pieces for Comic Con International ALREADY! Where has the year gone? And all the other pieces I need to do...I find myself wondering how I suddenly got so busy...

Another pocketwatch done. You can see more pix on Etsy...

Still working on the piece for "Unlocking Wonderland" —
I chose to interpret the Hatter. Some progress pix:

His nose kinda got away from me, but I think it works!

This doll is really an experiment for me, something I've wanted to
try for a looong time. If it works out, I may be off on a new direction for a while — stay tuned!

Gotta get up to the studio and get to work, so I'll post more next week...see ya then!

25 April 2016

Another Piece Ticked Off the List...

Here's another oddfae off the list and ready to go!

Folks are certainly challenging my sculpting abilities when they order these guys — what great ideas they have!

Now on to the piece for "Unlocking Wonderland"...

Hatter or Jabberwocky? Hmmm...

20 April 2016

New Sox

Here's one of the oddfae I made last week — he's on his way to his new home, but agreed to let me snap a couple of pix before he left...

...ans here's his cousin that lives in a watchcase; notice the color of the paint on his brush? Most folks know I don't like to paint, so I got some help with the stripes...

See ya next week!

11 April 2016

Been "Sketching"...

So these lil guys are how I "sketch" with clay...

I just stuff a gob of clay into a half-shell, and start noodling. If I get a face I really like, I'll turn it into a larger piece, maybe a furry troll, or a doll if a costume pops into my head. All depends what they tell me!

Working on commissions this week, so I may have a sneak peek or two later in the week — if not, see ya next Monday!

Let's Shake the Cobwebs Off This Poor Ol' Blog....

Time to give this blog some love! Hope y'all have been well, and ya didn't get flu like I did — took me three weeks to get over it!

As a result, got nothing new to show ya...so here's a lil guy I was working on before I got sick.

He REALLY doesn't want ears, but I have an idea what I'm gonna do with him — stay tuned!

'Kay, that's it for the mo'...see ya next Monday!
